The Fyre Festival was supposed to be a super-luxurious 2-weekend party for wealthy millennials, set in a beautiful private Caribbean island. Instead, for the attendees it was a time in hell. Now a $100 million class action suit has been filed against the organizers of the event.
The Alluring Promises
People were lured to the event because it was promoted by noted celebrities such as Emily Ratajkowski, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner. One of its founders was noted rapper Ja Rule. The organizers promised an opulent weekend filled with musical acts such as Blink 182, Migos, Major Lazer, and G.O.OD. Music.
It was supposed to be a luxury atmosphere on an island that was apparently once owned by the notorious drug dealer Pablo Escobar. Attendees would get to chat with supermodels aboard yachts, while they feasted on first class culinary masterpieces. The mornings will start with guided meditation and yoga on the beach, while they can also enjoy sound exhaling and massages.
The prices reflected the opulence of the events, with tickets costing thousands of dollars each. Some of the attendees even paid $10,000.
The Sad Reality
Once the attendees arrived, they were in for a major disappointment. Instead of the luxury accommodations they were promised, they got grounds that were truly lacking in various amenities. They were forced to stay in dirt fields and woeful tents, along with folding chairs. Some of the tents didn’t even have beds.
None of the promised entertainment was seen. Instead of culinary masterpieces, the attendees received Styrofoam boxes of bread and processed cheese with a bit of salad with dressing. People even had a hard time getting out, because the organizers promoted the festival as a cashless event with digital wristbands.
It turned out that Billy McFarland, one of the organizers for the event, had founded a company before that made similar promises. According to past members, the exclusive events promoted by that earlier company would either get canceled at the last minute or their tickets wouldn’t arrive.
