Where do the most car accidents happen in California?
The short and simple answer to this question is Los Angeles. Los Angeles has the most accidents plain and simple because it has the most people. However when looking at the amount of accidents per capita (per a certain amount of people) for the amount of people Los Angeles has, it actually comes in safer than a lot of cities. When determining this data we looked at data from The Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System, the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration and the California Office of Traffic Safety.
To find the most dangerous cities in California to drive we looked at the following factors:
- Injury Rate
- Collision Rate
- Fatality Rate
- Alcohol Related Crashes
- Hit and Runs
- Average Annual Rainfall
We have two calculations one is based on what we believe would be the most overall dangerous city to drive in. We also put together a list with the highest fatality rate per city.
Most Dangerous Cities for Driving in California
- San Francisco
- San Bernardino
- Santa Ana
- Berkeley
- Los Angeles
- Anaheim
- Salinas
- Lancaster
- Pomona
- West Covina
San Francisco came in at the top with almost 250 crashes per 100 million miles travelled. Their injury rate was also much higher at close to 200 of those crashes causing injury.
Most Deaths Due to Crashes in California
When looking at the highest number of deaths there was some overlap. Looking at the fatality rate only, the top 5 cities were:
- San Bernardino
- Lancaster
- Pomona
- Stockton
- Santa Ana
Some other interesting facts that we saw was the highest number of alcohol related crashes actually came from the city of Escondido. Whereas the highest hit and run accidents came from Santa Maria California. Berkeley California came in a close second.
After all of our calculations three of the safer cities to drive in were.
- Simi Valley
- Carlsbad
- Fremont
Statistics for Car Accidents in California
California has a lot of people, a lot of cars and a lot of crashes. We did a lot of research to get some very interesting facts about crash data for the State of California.
- Over 1050 people were killed in 2017 due to speeding related traffic conditions
- Around 30% of all accidents in 2017 were speed related
- California had the second highest speed related death rate in the nation
- The number of Fatal crashes in California in 2017 was 3304. These accidents caused over 3600 deaths.
- The average amount of accidents in California over the past 5 years is over 200,000 per year.
- The amount of people that are injured in an accident in is generally over 70%.
These are astonishing facts and raw data that paint and interesting picture. Even with these facts we can only wonder how many people were injured and did not make a claim. In California we hear time and time again people saying “well it only hurts a little bit”. Or “I don’t want the hassle”. We have had many cases where people think they are fine after the accident, then settle the case and months later they are in pain. These individuals then call our office and ask if they can re-open the cases now that their pain is back. After settling a case, it cannot be re-opened. We always tell people, a consultation with a California car accident lawyer is free and there is no risk to the caller to get information about their claim.
How do Car Accident Injury Cases in California work?
Car Accident cases can be very complicated however almost everything is done remotely. After one hires an attorney the majority of communications happen by email or by phone. Less than 1% of cases are filed in court and that would be the only time that a court appearance is necessary. This is one reason why we are able to handle cases all throughout California. These days we are even able to file lawsuits online or by fax to the courthouses. Once that has happened Alex Ozols will usually fly out on his own dime to any courthouse where an appearance must be made when necessary.
The world is changing and that has given clients the opportunity to hire any lawyer they want. Don’t waste your time talking to a small time lawyer who is close to your home when you can hire one of the best attorneys in all of California.
