September Car Accident on the SR 163 in San Diego

After allegedly driving erratically, a 22-year-old driver lost control of a 2024 Subaru on a busy section of the freeway, causing a three-vehicle collision.

The wreck happened on September 5, 2024. Following a minor collision with a semi-truck, the driver veered off the freeway into the ice plant on the side of the road. The man regained control of the vehicle and exited I-805 onto SR 163 in Linda Vista. After that, the driver had difficulty controlling the vehicle as it started to weave back and forth. Suddenly, the Subaru flew across several lanes and collided with a white Ford Eco Sport driven by a 70-year-old man, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Subaru rolled over, and three victims were transported to a hospital.

Upon investigation, CHP determined the driver wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Furthermore, the man possessed a valid driver’s license and no prior criminal history. A family member stated that the driver had severe personal problems but did not elaborate.

Originally, Linda Vista was a government town. As part of the war effort, builders constructed 3,000 houses in 200 days in Linda Vista. This neighborhood is also the home of San Diego’s first shopping mall, which was constructed in 1943 and torn down in 1972.

At about that same time, Vietnamese immigrants began changing the neighborhood’s makeup. Many Vietnamese-heritage individuals still live in Linda Vista, which is also the home of the University of San Diego.
