San Diego, CA – Runaway Driver Crashes Into El Cajon Home

Two people were seriously injured when a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle on Jamacha Road and slammed into a nearby home.

On November 12, 2024, a speeding vehicle lost control on a curve along Jamacha Road shortly after 2 a.m., smashing its way into the couple’s bedroom, El Cajon police said. The driver, a 26-year-old man, conducted a series of sobriety tests at the scene and was subsequently released, police said. He was uninjured.

Several area residents are concerned about speeding vehicles. “One of these times, they’re going to come too far into the line, they’re going to kill one of our animals. They’re going to probably drive into our property line and one of us is going to get hurt,” one said. “This alone, this street, this corner right here, we call  ‘death corner.’”

Just two blocks north, near Gustavo Street, where Tuesday’s crash happened, data shows a total of 18 crashes over 10 years. “Five or six years ago, a car flipped in front of our house, and our grandson was asleep in the room. Ever since then, you go to bed praying,” another resident remarked.

Dangerous curves are part of the El Cajon landscape. Cajon Speedway, the “Fastest 3/8-mile paved oval in the West,” was a 70-acre race track (28 ha) that operated from 1961 to 2005. It was founded by Earle Brucker Jr. of the El Cajon Stock Car Racing Association. One of his sons, Steve Brucker, later took over ownership of the track. The closed speedway is now a historic museum featuring the original entrance sign emblazoned with the aforementioned slogan.
