Big Crash in Mission Valley 92108, San Diego, CA

On November 19, 2025, a Toyota Sienna driver lost control of his vehicle on S.R. 161 and slammed into a storage facility.

CHP officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene of the crash. One of the first officers to arrive at the scene broke the driver-side window using his “Rapid Containment Baton” to begin extinguishing the fire.

Once SDFD crews arrived, they took over fighting the flames and pulled the driver out of the Toyota. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of major injuries.

An investigation by CHP into the cause and sequence of events tied to the crash remains ongoing. However, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the incident.

Mission Valley, which straddles the San Diego River, was the site of the first Spanish settlement in California, established in 1769.

The development of Mission Valley began in 1953 when the first hotel was built in what is now Hotel Circle. In 1958, the city council authorized the construction of San Diego’s first regional shopping center. The Mission Valley Center (now Westfield Mission Valley) opened in 1961 and was followed by several other large regional shopping malls.
