San Diego, CA – Multiple NYE DUI Crashes

Emergency personnel responded to several DUI crash calls on New Year’s Eve, including one in Rancho Peñasquitos and one in Linda Vista.

A Linda Vista witness described the accident scene. “I was not expecting this to be honest, first time happening here, but we can see that the guy was speeding. He was definitely driving crazy right there,” he remarked.

The drunk driver slammed into a concrete wall and totaled a parked car around 3:10 a.m. on the 2200 block of Burroughs Street. The witness’ Toyota RAV 4 was damaged.

“You can see we have total damage on my car right here, the wall, and also the building where we live,” he said. “What a way to start a new year,” he added.

In Rancho Peñasquitos, shortly after 3:00 a.m., a female driver was arrested for DUI by San Diego Police after crashing into a tree in the front yard of a house on Classique Way.

The driver, who may have been under the age of 18, along with her female passenger, allegedly first hit two cars in a Jack in the Box parking lot on Carmel Mountain Road before driving away from the scene and hitting another vehicle on the road. There were no reported injuries.

Rancho Peñasquitos operated until 1962 when real estate developer Irvin Kahn acquired the 14,000-acre parcel and built a 150,000-resident planned community.

Linda Vista is the home of the University of San Diego. Many of the homes in Linda Vista were built in 1940-41 as part of a government project to house aircraft workers for the war effort.
