This September 8, 2024 wreck occurred in the Roseville/Fleet Ridge neighborhood.
According to the San Diego Police Department, a 37-year-old woman was driving a 2017 Ford Expedition eastbound on 3400 Canon St. around 9:15 p.m.
For reasons unknown, the driver made what authorities described as “an unsafe movement to the right” and struck the rear of an Econoline box truck that was parked along the roadway. The right front of the vehicle collided with the truck.
A 12-year-old female passenger in the Ford expedition sustained a fractured right femur. The driver and three other juvenile passengers sustained various other injuries. Police said everyone was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Traffic Division is handling the investigation. At this point, DUI was determined not to be a factor in the collision.
Roseville, the oldest settled part of Point Loma, is named for its developer, San Diego pioneer Louis Rose, who bought the area in 1866. Back then, many residents were Portuguese fishermen, and the area retains that cultural dynamic. In fact, some people refer to Roseville as Tunaville. Saint Agnes Catholic Church holds services in Portuguese twice a month and hosts the annual Festa do Espirito Santo (Feast of the Holy Spirit), a religious festival which has been staged every year since 1910 and is San Diego’s oldest ethnic tradition.
Fleetridge is a purely residential area in the hills above Roseville. It’s named for David Fleet, a son of Reuben H. Fleet, who developed the area between 1950 and 1955.
