Deadly Three-Vehicle Crash in Rancho Santa Fe

A rush hour pileup crash in San Diego County on September 21, 2024, killed at least one person.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred around 6:35 a.m. at the intersection of Caminito De Los Escoces and Del Dios Highway.

It remains unclear whether the individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene or later at a hospital.

Rancho Santa Fe, a census-designated place (CDP) with a little over 3,000 residents in 202, is primarily residential with a few shopping blocks, a middle and elementary school, and several restaurants.

The community has an Art Deco vibe. In 1921, architect Lilian Rice, working under Requa and Jackson, was chosen to develop the community’s master plan. Rice worked until 1927, designing, supervising, and constructing the village center, as well as several homes. The basics of the original Lilian Rice land plan are in effect to this day, and the resulting low-density green space community is unique in Southern California.

Between 1937 and 1947, Bing Crosby hosted a celebrity golf tournament at the Rancho Santa Fe Country Club. Crosby’s golf tournaments, which included Hollywood celebrities matched against professionals, drew great crowds to the area.
