A New Year’s Day vehicle collision killed two pedestrians in Lemon Grove.
“The crash that killed two people occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue,” Lt. Josh Stone said. “Our traffic units are currently on scene investigating.” Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The victims were later identified as two 20-year-old cousins who grew up in Haiti. “They, both of them, dreamed to do more. To be someone in this country and in their life,” said Johny Oxeda, Executive Pastor of First Haitian Baptist Church Ebenezer in City Heights.
Lemon Grove, a community in south San Diego, may be most famous for the 1931 Lemon Grove Incident.
Written across the base of this monument are the words “Best Climate On Earth,” which is the city’s official motto. Designed by Lemon Grove architect Alberto O Treganza, the lemon was originally built as a parade float for the 1928 Fourth of July Fiesta de San Diego parade, carrying the town’s first Miss Lemon Grove, Amorita Treganza, Alberto’s 16-year-old daughter.
