On November 3, 2024, a 16-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Imperial Avenue near San Jacinto Drive.
According to San Diego Police, the major injury hit-and-run accident happened around 8:00 p.m. Officers responded to the Valencia Park neighborhood of San Diego to find a 16-year-old boy critically injured. It appears a driver left the scene after hitting him while heading westbound on 5200 Imperial Avenue.
The boy came to a rest on the eastbound lane, suffering a subdural hematoma, which increases pressure inside the skull. These types of injuries are life-threatening.
While paramedics rushed him to a hospital, the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division began investigating clues leading to the driver and crash. If anyone has more information, contact local authorities.
This southeast San Diego County area was once known as a haven for displaced persons. Prominent town founder Astor Basmajian was an Armenian refugee when he donated land for what became Valencia Park Elementary School and made other key contributions to the growing community. Much later in the 1990s, Filipino refugees moved into the Southeast San Diego neighborhoods of Alta Vista, Bay Terraces, Paradise Hills, Shelltown, Skyline Hills, and Valencia Park, both for the relatively affordable housing prices and the proximity to Naval Base San Diego.
