Several vehicles, including a motorcycle, were involved in a multi-vehicle collision that spread debris all over the highway and killed at least one person
The wreck occurred on January 5, 2025, in Miramar. According to CHP, four vehicles, including a motorcycle, were involved in a collision, with at least one of those vehicles ending up in a ditch off of the freeway. Another vehicle reportedly hit a disabled vehicle that was sitting in the lanes.
One person was killed in the chain-reaction crash.
Before 1950, Miramar was a quiet, nondescript neighborhood in north San Diego. That status suddenly changed when Naval Air Station Miramar opened. NAS Miramar, the site of the real-life Top Gun flight school, was realigned by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program in 1995 and turned over to the Marine Corps as a fixed wing and helicopter base in 1999.
No buildings from the old Miramar, which was founded in the 1890s as a large ranchero by media mogul Edward Scripps, are still standing.
