A police investigation continues into a deadly shooting that closed the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights on October 10, 2024.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a call of shots fired and a vehicle driving in the wrong direction around 4:11 p.m. Thursday near Lorena Street, CHP Officer Erik Larson said. One person suffered a fatal gunshot wound, and another person was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition, Larson said. Authorities were searching for three possible suspects, he added.
The shooting was the result of a road rage incident between a Cadillac sedan and a Dodge Durango.
After the initial incident with the Durango, the Cadillac was in a collision with another vehicle. People inside the Durango got out and opened fire on the Cadillac, which drove in the wrong direction on the freeway to escape.
The Cadillac then got into another collision and stopped, triggering the freeway closure. Police are looking for the shooters inside the Durango who escaped.
