On November 14, 2024, a woman driving a Honda Accord ran over a man who had fallen off his motorcycle.
The crash was reported at 4:44 p.m. in the 700 block of Telegraph Canyon Road, the Chula Vista Police Department said in a statement. The driver of the 2006 Accord was a 56-year-old woman residing in Spring Valley, and she was cooperative with law enforcement, according to the police statement.
Like most other communities in the Golden State, Chula Vista grew rapidly during and after World War II. In ten years (1940-1950), Chula Vista’s population tripled (5,000 to 16,000). The orange groves that had dominated the region for decades didn’t last long, beginning with the demolition of the Arguello Adobe of Rancho La Punta to make room for the Montgomery Freeway.
More change followed. In 1955, the Big Sky Drive-In opened. Until it closed in 1980, it was one of the largest drive-in theaters in the nation. By the 1960s, Chula Vista continued its expansion with the annexation of part of Bonita. That same decade, Filipinos and Mexicans began to move into Chula Vista in significant numbers, including many Filipino navy veterans.
By the time this growth spurt ended, Chula Vista had become the second-most populous city in all of San Diego County.
