On January 6, 2025, a wrong-way driver caused a fireball crash on a Pasadena freeway that killed two people and seriously injured several others.
The incident took place around 8:10 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near North San Rafael Avenue, officers said.
Though the exact circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear, CHP says that it was a wrong-way driver incident.
A 31-year-old man died at the scene. The second deceased victim, who died after being taken to a nearby hospital, has not been identified. Of the four other injured victims, officers say that three were in moderate condition while one suffered minor injury.
A SigAlert issued for the westbound freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard was lifted at around 1:30 p.m. Video from the scene shared by civilians on the Citizen app shows massive traffic congestion in the area due to the ongoing investigation.
